Meander Fold Monster - 2nd and 3rd Grade

For this lesson, I began by talking about bookmaking and how you could make a book with a single sheet of paper. Now to make this lesson more advanced from the Pants fold book I did with Kinder and 1st grade, I decided to create a meander fold or accordion fold book with the students.

I began by playing a video demo I had created for the lesson, and walked around assisting students as they worked on their books. The most difficult part of this assignment was the folding portion, but going slow and repeating that portion of the video helped make sure all students understood what to do.

After creating the base of their monster the students were able to use crayons, colored pencils, and construction paper to add all the fine details to their monsters bodies.
