Color Wheel Turtle - PreK and Kinder

This project is the first thing we start with at the beginning of the year. We learn what a color wheel is and how you can use it to see which primary colors mix to create the secondary colors.

We start by using a plate tracer, ruler and sharpie to create the 'Turtle Shell'. Then we use paint (markers if we need to finish fast) to color the shell. I try to make sure we color in the correct order, but with PreK and Kinder sometimes that just does not happen.

The next art class we cut out the shell, and use a tracing cup to trace then cut out the head. I pre cut out the legs with a circle punch and give each student 4. Then we glue the head and legs to our shell. I walk them through adding just a little bit on the edge of the shell and then we stick the green circles to that. Last thing we add is a face to the turtles with a Sharpie. I let them create their own faces, some will and mouths and even hair to their turtles.

I walk the students through the whole process with a demo video I created which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teV1J7q2GuE&t=908s
