Artist Statement
This body of work was created to explore the themes of nostalgia, human interaction with nature, and self-identity. They were made by someone who was evaluating their own identity and the aspects that have formed that identity. This body also looks into the childlike quality of creation and uses fun as a basis for creation and inspiration.
Teaching Statement
Through my own art and my learning of art education, I have found that staying true to one's identity, experimenting and mastering multiple media, and developing critical-thinking skills are the most important goals I have for my own art classroom. I want my students to get to experience multiple forms of art-making and I hope to instill joy and passion for art in my students.
In order to promote these goals, my classroom will be a space where my students feel that they can express themselves and the things that they like the most. I will teach students from many different types of media and allow them time to explore the media and begin to grow with it. I will have the students find ways to problem solve and help them challenge themselves to improve on their art-making skills.
Overall, I hope to be the best teacher I can be and to prepare my students for an education where they create, explore, pose questions, and problem solve in the art room and outside it.
